I was about 17, struggling to deicde whether to pursue arts or sciences
at degree. I was reading one of the interminable Xanth series in the kitchen
amongst the porcelain clatter of dinner being cleared up. I was struck by
this terrible realisation - most fantasy literature, which I had read avidly
for years, was a load of rubbish.
And so at length I branched out and read books from many and varied other
genres. Now years on, back in education for (hopefully) the last time, still
I mostly read fantasy -and it's got worse since I was 17 as well.
Exact high standards, particularly of yourself.
