It's called Quilt because it holds the patchwork together.

Patchwork Universe

Brief:

To create a site for an online game. Patchwork Universe requires forms for new players to sign up to the game, multi-level help documentation, graphical representations of the game's fictional world and the integrating of php forums into the site theme without using frames.

Design:

This style Quilt was based on the Triskellian style by Elizabeth Lovegrove. It makes heavy use of styled lists to create drop down menus. All the style is in the css, which can be inserted into the forum pages, integrating them seamlessly with the rest of the site hierarchy. This is backed up by JavaScript which enables it to work in variants of IE, which don't support css web standards.

Conclusion:

The stark clean look of the quilt style assists the presentation of the various forms, lists and tables across the site. Liberation from frames allows the php script to work more smoothly on those pages which require it, without deviating from the style.
