My two and four year old grandaughters loved this. The bright colours and bold outlines attracted them initially and the four year old spotted that it was 'the Pants illustrator', though this book looks rather different. It's plants not pants. Starting with 1 mole digging a hole - with a spade and wearing wellies - and ending with 10 bees pruning trees, all the pictures are horticultural and gave us lots to talk about.
Both girls loved counting all the items mentioned in Julia Donaldson's witty rhymes and some not mentioned. Author and illustrator bring vitality to a well-used format. I have to say I was hoping for a story when I saw the title but sharing it with the girls reminded me that counting can be fun.
