This is a story of two families joined together and trying to live with change. Millie and Michael's Dad has got together with Jason and Jess's Mum. Having moved out of London so their parents can open a bookshop, the children wish they were back in London for their own reasons. They discover 'The Genie Handbook' and its loquacious bookworm inhabitant, Skribble.

The handbook promises you can 'Grant Wishes like an Expert in Six Easy Stages' so they embark on a journey to Genie-dom. They learn to enter a lamp and emerge a Genie able to perform limited magic. Within each stage are tests, harder lessons, and solutions more tricky. With the pressure of the town quiz night, bookshop opening, and the danger of the two mysterious characters following them, will they become real Genies in time? Is London really their hearts' desire? An interesting, fun, well-crafted story that deals with stepsiblings and 'be careful what you wish for' issues.
