"Let's get one thing straight
a nit is an empty egg, OK? I'm a head-louse."

And so begins the witty repertee and extraordinary adventures of a not so ordinary louse. In fact, as bloodsuckers go, this louse is no louse at all. After hatching on top of Gregory's head, Jim (eventually named after his favourite Treasure Island character) discovers that he is a very special louse indeed. Gifted with the ability to ødrink inÓ the dominant trait from each of his host's' blood, Jim becomes quite the well-rounded and talented parasite. With a little help from his newfound friends in Gregory's class, Jim acquires incredible skills, hopes and dreams, and even the perfect plan to reform the class bully.

Dougherty has created an appealing combination of imagination, gross-out factor, classroom drama and humour. The illustrations are a perfect accompaniment of simplicity and silliness. Young, confident readers will be delighted with this very ølousyÓ adventure and eager for a future sequel.
