For all those little girls who dream of owning their own horse, but know full well that such a state of bliss will never be achieved, perhaps these books will stave off the agonies for a few happy hours. Elizabeth Lindsays 'Magic Pony series begins with 'A Dream Come True, which opens with young Natty finding that her 'pretends suddenly have a very real element to them.

Natty sees a poster of a beautiful horse, and is desperate to buy it for her bedroom wall. Once it is carefully placed opposite her bed, she begins to suspect that her picture of 'Ned is more than it seems. A mysterious pile of horse manure is found on the landing, her brothers bedroom is trashed, and it is clear that magic is in the air.

The thrill of Nattys secret, her very own horse, is part of the gentle charm of this series, but since Natty has no idea when Ned will come to life, the suspense is sustained in the second book, 'Pet Rescue. Pony-worshipping young readers will snuggle up with these books as part of the eternal quest to find their own magic.
